And then some. Michael Cardew, early apprentice of Bernard Leach, refers to “The Seven Treasures of the Potter’s Wheel” as the bucket, knife, sponge, pin tool, wire, rib and calipers. These inexpensive and simple tools have been used across cultures and time, from ancient to contemporary potters. Get to know these tools on a deeper level, enrich your existing relationship with your tools including care, try unfamiliar tools, and make a few of your own. Projects, demonstrations and discussion will orbit the perennial nature of toolmaking, its hybrid character of intuition and intentionality. Use your own tools and make pots even more distinctly yours. Class open to all levels, hand builders and independent study with guidance.
