Sandra Daulton Shaughnessy

“I describe my clay work as ‘ceremoniously functional,’ meaning there is an element of ritual involved while using my handmade pottery. Many of my pieces have an altered quality that expresses the softness of the clay and the atmospheric soda firing process. The imagery I use is a combination of tape or wax resist & glaze. [...] My studio practice is an integral part of my life generating rhythm, expression, mindfulness and a never-ending desire to create!”

Naturally, his pots today are imbued with the same qualities as good carpentry: they are calm, comfortable, and unabashedly domestic. The purpose of Meunier’s work is to be in use and appreciated for the service they quietly perform in everyday life.

When asked to describe her work, Rachelle Miller refers to it as "little colorful microcosms." As a mom, visual artist, and art instructor, Miller melds clay in the same way she weaves together all aspects of her life: with texture, color, and layering. While her pieces may begin—and remain—strong individually, Miller contends that each singularity is part of a larger community. Miller uses the potter's wheel and hand-building techniques to create her work. She also uses printing, etching, layering, and multiple firing methods to achieve her desired surfaces.
