Collection: Courtney Martin
Bakersville, NC
Courtney Martin grew up just outside of New York City on Long Island. She attended college at the University of New Mexico (Albuquerque, NM) where she fell in love with clay and earned her BFA in ceramics. Martin then moved to the mountains of North Carolina to join the community of potters that surrounds the Penland School of Crafts (Bakersville, NC). She built her own wood kiln and studio in Bakersville, where she currently lives and works. Martin makes functional pots meant for daily use that combine traditional techniques and materials with a modern aesthetic. She also uses her work and platform to bring awareness to issues she feels strongly about such as social justice, climate change, and abortion rights. Martin serves on the board of Crafting the Future (Los Angeles, CA) and is a founding member of Spruce Pine Potters Market (Spruce Pine, NC) and Clay to Table.
